Raiders Win Season Opener Against New Castle & Deer Lakes
Game 1 – Seneca Valley 18, New Castle 0
In a dominant season opener led by head Coach Chris Eden, Seneca Valley triumphed over New Castle with a commanding 18-0 victory in Girls Flag Football. The game was highlighted by great performances on both sides of the ball.
Quarterback Lilly Sperry led the offense, showcasing her skill with two touchdown passes, both to, Lilly Hudac. The SV offense was clicking early by taking an early 12-0 lead.
On the defensive side, Seneca Valley’s defense was nothing short of impressive, keeping New Castle from getting on the scoreboard. The standout moment came from Ari Rhedrick, who sealed the shutout with a pick-six, putting the game well out of reach.
With both the offense and defense clicking, Seneca Valley’s 18-0 victory set the tone heading into the team’s second game of the day against Deer Lakes.
Game 2 – Seneca Valley 13, Deer Lakes 2
In a rain-soaked battle, Seneca Valley came out on top, defeating Deer Lakes 13-2 in a hard-fought game. Both teams struggled offensively in the early stages due to the wet conditions, with neither team able to find a rhythm in the first half.
However, Seneca Valley eventually gained control of the game. Quarterback Abbi Speicher led the offense and connected with Legacy Joseph-Short for the game’s first touchdown, putting the Raiders on the board.
The defense also played a critical role, keeping Deer Lakes out of the endzone, Deer Lakes 2 points came from a safety in the first half. With the rain continuing to pour, Seneca Valley adjusted well, holding Deer Lakes off the scoreboard for the rest of the game.
Seneca Valley’s resilience in the challenging weather conditions helped them secure the 13-2 victory, a strong 2-0 start to their season.
